Suspense: exploring a new lens for outcome uncertainty in entrepreneurship

In entrepreneurship, we hear about the value of 'embracing uncertainty and failure', given what can be learned ex post. Instead relying on post learning, this paper examines ante emotional condition suspense generated in situations involving outcome uncertainty. I investigate cognitive conditions under which entrepreneurs experience suspense, they enjoy it. Empirical analysis reveals that some determinants felt by an audience (e.g., while watching a movie) are same ones determine their own lives. For example, suspending belief ignoring one's schemas) plays role both contexts. However, neither hope nor fear or interaction appear to drive typical entrepreneur's suspense. Besides developing concept entrepreneurial relate notion six different areas entrepreneurship literature: goal-setting, risk-seeking, timing, imagination, overconfidence/optimism, failure.
